I speak to a lot of cat fanatics every day as well as dealing with vets and animal experts. And a lot of people are always telling me about their fears of their cats getting trapped outside if they upgrade to a new kind of cat flap.
It sometimes seems at first like its safer to stick with what you know but just consider all of the problems associated with standard cat flaps, you know, neighbours cats sneaking in, stray cats peeing up your walls, bulling or intimidating your cat, etc. etc.
Magnetic and infrared cat flaps are slightly better than an open cat flap because at least they will keep a lot of those cats out - but many cats dislike collars. Magnetic collars can pick up nails and metal objects when your cat is playing outside and if you have two cats they can actually get stuck together if both of them are wearing magnetic collars. Yes, a lady told me today that this happened to her two kittens!
Infrared cat flaps are better but cats are prone to losing the collars. Whether they lose the whole collar or just lose the collar attachment the cost of replacing them adds up over the year. Some people are replacing as many as four collars every season and that could add up to £240 per year!
Both magnetic collars and infra red collars are battery powered and aside from the “Green” concerns, are you honestly conciencious enough to regularly check the batteries haven’t ran out? With a battery cat flap it is advisable to check the batteries are working at least twice per month. Otherwise your cats could get locked out!
Recently everything changed with the advent of the microchip cat flap.
The Pet Porte microchip cat flap changed everything when they invented, patented and brought to market the first collarless cat flap that unlocks only when it reads your cats existing chip!
Because Pet Porte reads your cats existing microchip you don’t need to get your cat rechipped. Just scan your cats in (it can remember up to 31 cats!) and then whenever your cat approaches the door it unlocks and they can get in but neighbours cats and strays are firmly locked out by the strong plastic door.
Microchip cat flaps future looks rosey because PetPorte have several enhancements and product additions I will write about in future posts.
Pet Porte are already gearing up for a massive demand this Christmas after a tremendous demand lead to complete stock depleation last year.
The main UK sales website microchipcatflaps.co.uk was the subject of customer complaints due to long delivery times but now those waits are down to 2 to 6 days and a next day delivery service is planned.
MicrochipCatFlaps.co.uk (with its Head Office based in Nottingham) now provides much needed employment to a small town in Wales thanks where all the orders are picked and packed. Also a call centre is about to provide customer service and telephone ordering, such is the Pet Porte’s growing popularity.
Sales of microchip cat flaps in Europe are also skyrocketing with demand especially high in Germany and Switzerland - two countries not commonly known for their love of all things feline! Mo
